Laura Fuentes is a Baltimore-surface area opera librettist, playwright, and soprano. She is a 2019 Playwright Beau with the Baltimore-based Cohesion Theatre, which will stage a reading of her new playPast Sea in September 2019. Ms. Fuentes' brusque play,The Ides of May, was commissioned by Interrobang Theatre in Baltimore in December 2017 equally part of their third annual Heavy Hors D'Oeuvres programme. She is also the writer of a 1-act play for young performers entitledThe Failed Olympians Order. Ms. Fuentes served as a Senior Educational Theatre Specialist with Kaiser Permanente, where she was involved in all aspects of producing and performing original educational theatre content for audiences of all ages. As a performer, Ms. Fuentes has appeared with companies effectually the DC metro region, including Signature Theatre, Toby's Dinner Theatre, Hazard Theatre, the In Series, the Washington Savoyards, and Anne Arundel Community College Opera. She is a frequent soloist with the Symphony Orchestra of Northern Virginia. Ben Morris is a Colorado-based composer and jazz pianist whose music tells unconventional stories and crosses genre boundaries. Morris recently lived in Oslo, Norway on a Fulbright Grant studying with jazz musician Helge Sunde and composing a work for extended big ring and videoinspired past his Norwegian heritage. He has been a composer fellow at music festivals and workshops including the Aspen Music Festival, the American Composers Orchestra Jazz Composers Institute, Red Note Festival, Sibelius Academy Creative Dialogue, New Music on the Indicate, the University of Nebraska Bedroom Music Institute, the International Gugak Workshop in South korea, highScore, and the Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival. His compositions have been performed by ensembles and musicians including the American Composers Orchestra, the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble, NOW Ensemble, Vincent Gardner, unassisted fold, Imani Winds, The Living Earth Show, Boulder Altitude Directive (BAD), Playground Ensemble, and the NDR Big Ring.
Amid his accolades are an ASCAP Herb Alpert Jazz Composer Laurels—along with an invitation to perform at the Newport Jazz Festival—, an ASCAP Morton Gould Honor, ii Downbeat Awards, commissions from the Washington National Opera American Opera Initiative, New York Youth Symphony First Music Program, Playground Ensemble, Colorado State Music Teachers Association, and the Klezmer Company Orchestra, the International Guild of Bassists Limerick Contest M Prize, the Frost Symphony Composition Prize, and an NJMEA Young Composers Award. Morris was composer-in-residence for the Houston Da Camera Young Artistprogram and an artist-in-residence at the Kimmel Harding Nelson Middle, CATWALK Institute, and Brush Creek.
Also a versatile film and theatre composer and orchestrator, Morris scored the national public television documentary film Saving the Great Swamp: The Battle to Defeat the Jetport, which won best documentary at the New Jersey Film Festival in 2017. He has worked equally a music assistant, orchestrator, and copyist for documentary motion picture composer and songwriter Michael Bacon. In 2017, Morris premiered an original bedroom musical, North Pond, at the Midtown Arts and Theater Center in downtown Houston, sponsored by Musiqa. He composed incidental music for a production of Denis O'Hare'due south play An Iliad that opened the outset flavor of Rice Academy's Moody Center for the Arts black box theater.
Morris is pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in limerick at the University of Colorado Bedrock as an ATLAS Fellow studying with Carter Pann and Michael Theodore. He received a Principal of Music caste from the Rice University Shepherd School of Music, where he was a Brown Fellow studying with Karim Al-Zand and Anthony Brandt, and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Music from the Academy of Miami Frost Schoolhouse of Music, where he studied with Lansing McLoskey, Gary Lindsay, and Martin Bejerano. Morris is an active educator, having taught music theory, aural skills, composition, and piano in the Michael P. Hammond Preparatory Program and at CU Boulder.
Damien Geter is an acclaimed composer and diverse artist whose credits include performances ranging from the operatic stage to the television screen. As a composer, Damien infuses classical music with diverse styles from the black diaspora to create music that furthers the cause for social justice.
Damien'southward growing torso of work includes chamber, song, and orchestral works. Some recent highlights include commissions for Resonance Ensemble (An African American Requiem), The Washington Chorus (Cantata for a Hopeful Tomorrow), Washington National Opera, Opera Theater Oregon (Invisible), the University of Michigan (The Justice Symphony), and All Classical Portland (Neo-Soul). His large piece of work, An African American Requiem will premiere in 2021 in partnership with Resonance Ensemble and the Oregon Symphony. Also a professionally trained classical vocalizer (bass), Damien has appeared with the Metropolitan Opera, Seattle Opera, Portland Opera, among other regional companies across the nation.
